Description
Casa Arte Habana is a beautiful colonial appartment in the very heart of old Habana. The appartment, the area and the people in the neighbourhood are very authentic and not spoiled yet by tourism. Staying at our place will give you a very realistic view of Habana and Cuba: the beauty of time stood still, the music, the warmth of the people and the uniqueness of this amazing city. In one of the rooms, Fidel Castro studied for his university degree in law.
The Space
This appartment is a great example of the elegant architecture of Habana. It has beautiful Spanish colonial ceilings and floors. The appartment has 4 sleeping rooms, 2 bathrooms, a kitchen, a dining room, a living room and an entrance hall. The entire appartment measures 140 square meters. An elegant elevator brings you to our appartment, which is situated on the 5th floor assuring astonishing views on Habana. There's air-conditioning and/or ventilation in all the rooms. The appartment is perfectly suited for families or small groups of friends or couples in search of prestigious beauty with the character of an old lady.
The Neighborhood
We live in the very centre, the heart of folkloric, old Habana. It's around the corner of the Gran Teatro, Parque Central, the Prado etc. It is therefore also very well connected with all other parts of Habana and Cuba. As soon as you get out of the door, you'll get a perfect understanding of Habana: its colourfull and joyfull people, the beautiful architectures, the royal hotels with rooftop swimming pools, the good restaurants, the famous concert halls and cocktail bars etc. As in 99% of Habana, most of the buildings have not been upgraded since the revolution, which also goes for our area. This has off course both positive aspects (authenticity, beauty, story etc.) and negative aspects (many of the buildings and infrastructure are in a used state), but its authenticity is guaranteed.
Getting Around
You can visit all the monuments and places to be by foot from the appartment, it's all nereby. We're within 100 meters walking of public transport to all parts of the city. You'll have plenty of choice between bici-taxi's, boteros (taxi's), busses, etc. The Malecon is only 200 meter walking distance, so you can have a great jogging session along one of the most famous ocean roads.
A customer perspective
We booked this apartment for ten days and have had the most extraordinary time in Havana. As architecture tutors we were overseeing a study trip to the city with our students staying in Airbnb accommodation elsewhere in the city. Casa Arte Habana was the perfect base for this, in amongst the life and activity of Centro Habana and within easy reach of our student's work in the Habana Vieja and the necessary wifi connections provided by the short walk to the nearby hotels. Frederik made us feel very welcome even before we arrived and provided us with clear information on the property and its location. Pedro led us on an unforgettable adventure on the way in from the airport and Maria welcomed us with much needed coffee and cheer! After working in the dense city streets during the day, it was a joy to find the spacious calm of the Casa each night. The installation of two new air-conditioning units while we were there was an unexpected bonus. We felt we could easily relax after days of long, hot walks and enjoy the sounds of the streets below blowing in with the evening breeze. The location is lively but it is the true Havana and off the normal tourist trail. That said, it is also extremely close to El Capitolio (which you can see from the balcony) and the Gran Teatro de La Habana where we caught the last night of the ballet festival overseen by the great 94 year old Alicia Alonso herself. Amazing. Thanks Frederik, Maria and Pedro! Adrian + Vicky
